Its still something only they can get and then change cultures to get whatever troops they want, giving them an advantage, however minor, over other races. I just figure if some races get some bonus thing, the others should as well. Games singleplayer, so its not like it harms balance, mostly just seems strange to give two races racial bonus companion(s), one immunity to morale penalty over the sea, and  the rest, far as i can tell, nothing. Just my two cents on the matter.

Though Alfred has not been touched. As far as the game in concerned he is just another normal troop. I will double check the code though just incase, but if it worked before it should still work now because he has not be touched.
I just tried again earlier today, same result, can capture petyr, but no al. Moddb version. 2.2. Fresh install. Im not a programmer so this is probably nonsense, but could something else you changed be somehow interacting with alfred?

So, do wildlings and north have bad troops? They get special companions, seems unfair to give them that, good items, and good troops. Troops and items being far less important as well, because anyone can get armies of any troops, or buy/loot any gear.

So I guess instead the question is why do those two races get special bonuses, while no one else does? Are other racial bonuses going to be added to balance those? Or are wildling and north just the obvious best choices, as we can probably change culture afterwards to get other troops, but need to start as those to get special companions.

I found one finally the other day, its way deadly. not at my gaming pc but it was 40something damage piercing I believe. It drops most anything real quick, didnt get to try it on wights or wight giants yet, which are so far the strongest things ive had to deal with, but that was more just lack of preparedness to deal with something that can down you in one hit through lordly great helm, lordly plate armor, lordly steel boots, lordly plate gloves and reinforced tower shield.

If this is the mission you get from hollow hill, yeah, they spawn over near stoney sept, but can as far as I know wander to literally anywhere (probably confined to westeros, dont know how AI deals with boats) I always end up cheating on those missions, its too hit or miss finding them if you dont go immediately to the right place.

Moddb have been for a day or two now after discovering how messed up steams version was. and playing 2.2, fresh install. I can cheat ko everyone, petyr, alfred, and the squires, but only petyr and squires show on captured list. If I fight alfred alone, that whole screen doesnt even show up, goes straight from the page showing how many of your people were lost/wounded, and how many you killed/wounded, where he shows as wounded btw, hit next which usually sends you to the freed prisoners, captured enemies and so on page, instead just sent straight back to map. It worked perfectly before 2.0 came out, even on the steam version, or at least the one time i tried the quest before 2.0 came out, it worked absolutely fine.

And also, its not failing. We cant get the bonus for catching both, only one of them. Catching 1 gets you a small reward, catching both got you more, extra money and a book, its even listed in the wiki. We can only catch 1 of 2. It doesnt fail the quest, it prevents completing it properly, gives us a "well I guess you tried your best" result, then moves on to next mission.

Could you at some point make a throwaway character and go run the quest to show screens you are able to capture them both? How recently have you checked it?

Last time I checked was yesterday, on a new playthrough, I'll run it again in like 30 minutes and get some screenshots.
Im doing same thing and only able to catch petyr. No submods or tweaks, first quest I do straight out the gate, though I do accept the stark mission, then pay off westerlands.

There are also posts about this on the steam forums. same cant capture spies thing.

I am using 2.2. Im also using the moddb version. I switched over the other day to fix the tickler quest.

Have replicated it. Waited a bit, they joined groups, Fought both, knocked out all, only able to capture petyr, not the other guy.

Yeah, repeated this 7 times now, tried attacking alfred before he reaches and after he reaches, doesnt matter, he doesnt appear on the captured enemies when I fight him with petyr and his squires,  and when I fight him when he is alone the captured/rescued page doesnt even come up. Doesnt stop progression, but its pretty lame to be impossible to succeed. I even tried cheat ko on the group, he shows as having been injured, doesnt say anything about anyone escaping, but still doesnt show on the list of captures.

I was hunting down the spy, waited for them to meet, groups didnt combine or anything, so i killed the 7 strong group using blunt only, captured the contact, then had to fight the spy, same weapon, knocked him out, completed fight, and he wasnt available to capture him, that screen never even came up, just loot choices and then back to world map. Going to attempt to replicate, see if it was just bad luck or something.

I think the War Bow is one that isn't necessarily meant to be in the game, as it's only 4 damage less than the Masterwork Long Bow when upgraded to the same degree, but has a 18 higher speed rating and a 99 accuracy rating.
Based on that, yeah probably not intended to be there. Ive found like one party of them so far, are they from a particular area of westeros or just kinda all over? I found one up in the North.

If all thats between me and that is some bandits, westeros is going to have a dramatic reduction in crimes against the smallfolk. Decent armor seems to have rendered me invulnerable to anything but lords. Any old bandits or a particular type? or is there one just called "Bandit"?
