It really depends on your play style. If I'm acting like a Conqueror, I usually build a well-fed strong army and take over a castle or city in about 200 - 250. You can also rush for Unsullied for easy battles. With advanced controls (F4) they're just killin everything on the way.

If the faction in a campaign, wed wouldn't happen. You've to wait til the end.

Its better to tell it via an example; I've achieved Iron Throne by myself with 2 Lord. I've good relationship with Mace Tyrell and married with Cersei. Can I make them loyal to me? It's more like the way of GoT itself.

I think selling hostages to night's watch is pretty good way to make money. Northern Horseman's knock out people rather than killing. You can use them to take some.
