In this case, I have absolutely no idea, might be one for Produno to take a look at, it's not game breaking its just -5 relation with Brotherhood of Banners so just go join two fights with them and hey presto you're back to standard relations. The book is a bit of a bummer but once again, not game breaking.

Weird. That made no difference at all for me. Cheated just to check, koed everyone in first second, no possibility of escape, still fails, doesn't behave any differently. Do we need to literally kill them, as in if any are just wounded or unconscious we've already failed? As so far doing exactly what you said doesn't make any difference.

I initiated. The only time I've failed is when routed enemies escape. Aside from that I always complete it.

I still fail when I do that, I've even tried cheat ko whole enemy group. So that's probably part of it. Did they initiate or you?

I think I've worked this out, I did this quest 6 times last night. You fail the quest if any of the enemies get "routed" and not killed.

Im having this same problem, playing 2.2, fought using only blunt, even tried cheating, attacking them, letting them attack me, after the fight, no conversation, no book, no quest update, returning to beric just makes him mad.

I managed to find the raiding party, engaged them in a fight and after I killed most of their soldiers I ordered my men to use blunt weapons to capture their commander. Even tho, he still gets killed  :o. I reloaded the save and tried to capture him at least 5-6 times and he always gets killed, no matter if I kick him, beat him with bare fists or hit with blunt weapons. I tried with both cheats enabled and disabled but nothing works  :(
