Which tier are you? If you don't meet required standarts (I.E. strength for a knight), you won't be promoted, as you can't use their gear. Check unit's stats in Troop Trees and compare them to yours.

Reach the amount of exp I need to get promoted, promotion day rolls by and nothing happens.  Also when fighting for a Lord and we lose and then get captured, I don't get a quest to return back to that Lord's command; it just says I'm still enlisted, and when I find him again, I have to re-enlist.
