I tend towards hire them all, then whittle it down by appointing people as vassal or other position, then release leftovers until stable party.

Nope, doesn't make them happy, so you would have to pay them every week, and eventually it would be every companion, 7040 each, every week.

I've tried amending the item_kinds1 to amend this (on my own game) and I haven't been able to get it to not break either, so this is definitely a job for Produno.

I still don't have this issue, but here's some fixes, kill their horses and then rout them, then capture them from there.

I believe it's just another way to have a vassal join you if your lord doesn't give you a castle and you "leave, keeping all of your fiefs"

I will test this out later, it does seem a bit early but I suppose it depends on your relation with him. It's not impossible.

I'm pretty sure you have to kill EVERY enemy, if even a single one gets routed or escapes Berick calls you a liar and hates you.

I think I've worked this out, I did this quest 6 times last night. You fail the quest if any of the enemies get "routed" and not killed.

All obsidian weapons do damage to ww, as do all weapons that state they're "Valryian Steel" in the description. This includes the weapons in the recently removed cheat menu.

Side Note : If you are rich enough there is an option for the companion not to leave you but it costs 7040 stags per companion that wants to leave per week. So this is not really a viable option without cheats.

4. I didn't receive -40 relations with the Stormlands faction when declared for Stannis. This also happened to me multiple times doing mercenary work, I would release a capture lord and go + relations and then be unable to fight unless I solo challenged a lord. Not sure if it's a bug or just a -rep that needs changing.

5. We (Dragonstone) are at war with the Stormlands, but I can't participate in siege battles because I have a positive relations with the Stormlands, and when I attacked an enemy lord, it was like declaring a war upon them = relation -30 Same as above.

6. Brienne both likes and dislikes Thoros of Myr. After a first battle, she talks shit about him, and after a second battle, she compliments him. Is that supposed to happen or it's bugged? I've yet to see her compliment Thoros in any way, I've only ever seen her compliment Podrick

Actually, I own only Qarhigar, but the master of laws do not train any troops. 

In this case, I guess it's just the minister then 😭 looks like you may have to export or gather 13 companions all with trainer level 5-10 this trains up extremely quick too.

Isn't the Golden Company also available for hire? At least in 1.3 it was if you got them before the invasion started. Either way, I've never made it far enough that I could hire them, or would need them. Perhaps in my current playthrough I'll get to hire some of them. I remember reading that The Tattered Prince for example becomes your companion if you hire The Windblown, 75k is expensive for a companion but he's supposed to come at level 46.

I'm going to guess that they could be useful especially after you start your own kingdom, I can see many uses for the merceneray companies in that case.

Golden Company is not available  they're "in theory" with Dany / Aerys when they invade Westeros.
None of the leaders of the mercenary groups actually become your companion but the Tattered Prince & Ulf are able to lead patrols and are much stronger than regular units.
