Dire wolf works like the dog works in Viking conquest. Go to a city or a village, either hit  go to town center" or Village center depending where you are. You should see it then. It follows you in town streets, villages, and battles only. Cheers.

I have an issue.. I am a northerner but when I try to get the Direwolf, a blue text pops in the left bottom corner but I don not get the direwolf. any fix ? thank you

You need to be of northern culture for the dire wolf, and of Free Folk culture for the giants

I found Wun-Wun and Dongo north of the wall, the dire wolf in the wolf's wood and Dacey Mormont in a tavern.

But I can't find Thoros of Myr, does anyone know where he is? Or is he hanging around in a random tavern?
