Why not use robber knight? they'er strong ，reliable source to get. Use  them , you can beat lord's party. Then you can use their top soilders.

Syrio also makes a great trainer for the player and troops.

the best way is to keep farming bandit types (outlaws, clansmen, tribesmen, ironmen, sea raiders, wildling raiders, slavers, pirates) and get syrio as a companion.

Stay away from Robber Knights until you need an army  ;)
